Buddy Lee Dobberteen is a Texas Americana artist who got hit by a roadside bomb during one of his three tours of duty in Iraq. Returning to the U.S. a disabled veteran had major implications in Buddy's life. The doctors told him he wouldn't walk again but he did. And through the help of veteran organizations Soldiers Angels and The Welcome Home Project, Buddy learned to play guitar again. And then, almost effortlessly (Buddy attributes it to the Lord above) Buddy began to come into contact with a serious arsenal of Americana studio musicians, engineers, and producers. This situation influenced Buddy’s songwriting in immeasurable ways. Buddy’s new record “Second Chances” is produced by triple platinum recording artist/producer Jamie Oldaker, who for the last four decades has recorded and toured with some of world’s most renowned artists including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Peter Frampton, The Tractors and Willie Nelson to name just a few. In addition to guiding the creative process of Buddy’s new album, Oldaker also takes up drum duties on the project alongside seasoned studio men Brian J Standefer (Reckless Kelly, Patty Griffin), Bukka Allen (Jack Ingram, Bodeans), Gene Elders (George Strait, Lyle Lovett), Glenn Schuetz (Jimmy LaFave) and Jeff Plankenhorn (Bob Schneider, Ray Wylie Hubbard). Rounding out the production on “Second Chances” is the mastering job of Grammy nominated and gold-record winning producer Chris Lieck (Hole, Insane Clown Posse). If you’re wondering what kind of influence this team of professionals adds to Buddy Lee’s songs, you’ll just have to listen…and it may go without saying that you are likely to get one of the freshest Americana records of the last few years.
